“The Real Reason We Went Crate-Free — and What It Means for Your Dog”

At ZoomieZ, we get asked one question more than any other: “Why crate-free?”

The short answer? Because we couldn’t bear to crate our dog.

In 2020, we rescued Zaara — a sweet, sensitive pup who changed our lives. Like many first-time dog parents, we assumed the standard route for care meant crates, kennels, and short bursts of attention between walks. But every time we left her at a traditional facility or with a sitter through a popular app, we saw the same signs: stress, shutdown, and a heartbreaking lack of joy.

Zaara didn’t thrive in a crate. She needed space. She needed connection. She needed a place where she could just be a dog — not a number.

When we couldn’t find it… we built it.

Crates Can Be Helpful — But Not for Everyone

Let’s be honest: crates have their place. Some dogs find comfort in a den-like space, and we totally respect that. But for many pups — especially social, energetic, or anxious ones — being confined in a crate for hours can lead to stress, frustration, and even behavioral issues.

ZoomieZ was designed for the dogs who need more freedom, more play, more rest when they choose, and more personal attention from humans who get to know them as individuals — not just another “boarding slot.”

What Crate-Free Looks Like at ZoomieZ

We’re not just removing crates — we’re reimagining care : Crate-Free.

  • 🐶 Dogs play, nap, explore, and socialize in open, supervised spaces.

  • 👀 Our founder pup Zaara keeps everyone in line (no barkers, no chaos).

  • 💕 Our daughter Baby Z — a gentle, dog-savvy 3-year-old — is the soul of our space, teaching kindness and connection every day.
